Title: The application of AI in building a logistics network at Rakuten
Abstract:
Delivery service is one of the most important factors in e-commerce. However, the driver shortages and the spikes in demand from online shopping has been forcing the existing logistics powerhouses to increase the delivery price. Accordingly, online shoppers and merchants need to increase the prices of their products. Besides, relying on external delivery partners make it difficult to manage the quality of the delivery service.
To solve these issues, Rakuten Inc., the largest e-commerce company in Japan, is building its own logistics network to reduce the delivery costs, increasing shipping volumes and improve customer experiences. In this talk, we will briefly introduce the logistics network that we are building at Rakuten. Then, we present how we are using AI to address key problems in logistics such as real-time fleet management, dynamic routing and estimated arriving time (ETA) prediction.
